This is one of the required 3D items for the contest. I have made backpacks before. I have three kids and am on the teacher appreciation committee so this is a theme I am familiar with. This time however I used the Gift Bag Punch Board to make the backpack! Wish they had had this a few years ago when I made twenty of them! The punch board makes this so simple.
Here is what the back looks like. My daughter Jillian has already claimed this for one of her stuffed animals. Too cute!
The punch board makes the little slits at the bottom, the score lines for a nice clean fold, and even the holes for the ribbon! I followed directions for the small size (you can then make is as tall or short as you like).
I traced the area where the holes were punched and added some matching ones at the bottom for my backpack shoulder straps.
I attached two strips of ribbon to the inside, then pushed them through the holes and up to the top.
At the top of the bag I added a flap for the backpack. I glued the flap over the top of the ribbon holes because I wanted them to stay in place and look a little loose like shoulder straps look.
I threaded the ribbon through the holes I made in the front of my flap, and tied the bag closed with a bow.
You can fill this larger area with a gift card, candy, or cash :)
I wanted to make a front pocket for the backpack, as all the backpacks in my house have them. The sizes on this sort of depend on what you hope to put in the pocket. Maybe a little note, maybe a gold coin or a gold chocolate coin? This is the basic shape, you can size it down or up depending on what size bag you made.
I folded it up like this.
The front pocket of mine very snugly fits a Ghirardelli chocolate square.
I punched a star from glimmer paper and added a tag that reads "be the star you are". Fun right? The tag was cut using a die from the Cutie Pie thinlits dies, but there are a lot of tag dies that come in many Stampin' Up! thinlits.
