Spotlight Technique

Today I am using some new dies to do an old technique.  This technique is called the 'Spotlight' technique and how you achieve it is by cutting out select areas of an image and only coloring in those selected areas.   I chose to use the Butterfly Brilliance and Daisy Garden stamps for my cards.

The new Picture This dies are perfect for this technique.

On the Butterfly Brilliance card, I used a base of Misty Moonlight and stamped on Crumb Cake.  I then used the Picture This dies to cut out the circles.   I colored the areas that were cut out with the dies with the Stampin' Up! watercolor pencils. I chose to stick with blues and added some highlights with the white pencil.

On this card, I chose to recess the colored areas and use dimensionals to pop up the surrounding areas.

For this next card I chose the rectangles from the Picture This dies.  I used Bumblebee for the card base and again stamped on Crumb Cake.  I colored the cut out areas with the watercolor pencils.

I love the Gingham Bumblebee Ribbon, so I just had to add it to the card. And of course I had to add a cute little Gold Bumblebee trinket to the card as well.

On this card I chose to pop up the colored areas and recess the surrounding areas.

I made a step by step video for this card here:
