I spent the afternoon using the Autumn Greetings stamp set and Autumn Essentials dies. When I get a new stamp set, I sometimes like to first make a couple of the card samples right from the catalog. That is what I did this time. Copying some of the catalog samples sort of gives me a feel for the sets and it's a nice jumping off point. I may change a couple elements, or a color or designer paper depending on what items I may own. I also try to make cards in a variety of difficulty levels, so that the set can appeal to beginners and technique junkies alike.
I hope that some of these samples inspire you to give this set a try. It is so pretty for this time of year, and the sentiments are great too!
The dies for this set are great! I love the edge dies. They really add some pretty elements to my cards. I also really like the wheat stalks. I have gotten a lot of use out of those!
I made a video so that I could show how to make a few of these cards step by step, and also so I can point out a few details about the stamps and dies.
I really liked this sample from the August /December catalog. It is in the back of the catalog and easy to miss, so I wanted to make it and point it out. They've used a 'cards and envelopes' pack that has those pretty gold details along the sides and corners. I will list those in the supplies section. I used Stampin' Blends to color in the image and it looks really great. I was a little worried that the amount of detail in this stamp would make it difficult but it wasn't and it was fun to color.
For this sample I used the watercolor pencils. The look here is softer than the Blends. I stamped the image in Saddle Brown Stazon ink to start, then colored the image in with the pencils.
For this sample I wanted to show that you can use that large image stamp without having to color it all in! Here it is just stamped on Crumb Cake cardstock with Crumb Cake ink. I also want to point out the pretty edge die from the Autumn Essentials dies. Love that! I also used the pumpkin dies.
After I made the Crumb Cake inked one I thought I would make an embossed image version too so I used all the papers that were out on my desk to create these versions. Which do you prefer? The gold and Peacock or the gold and Razzleberry?
Here's another one based on a sample from the catalog. This card uses the other edge die.
Did you see those plaid papers?! These are amazing. The pack is 6x6 and you get 48 sheets, 4 each of 12 double sided designs. The plaids will carry you through the Fall/Winter season but many will be great for Valentines, masculine cards and more.
