Celebrate Sunflowers Masking Technique

Hi everyone!

Recently Sara Douglass, Stampin' Up! CEO held a fund raiser for Lifting Hands International to benefit refugees of Ukraine on her Facebook page.  You can watch the replay here:

People from the Stampin' Up! home office made cards in the colors of the Ukrainian flag. It was a nice thing to participate in and it inspired me to make my own card inspired by the colors of the flag of Ukraine.

Here are the cards that were made during the fundraiser.

You can see a supply list and close ups of the projects here: https://su-media.s3.amazonaws.com/media/customer_site/Ukraine%20Fundraiser%20Cards/Ukraine%20Fundraiser%20Cards.pdf?fbclid=IwAR3bxFCxyypycm2Ib61SHafcSWJq7O-XkDhYt6xc8x6FsV1rRbpZTScr6wE

The sunflower is the national flower of Ukraine and  I thought it would be nice to sort of mimic the flag's blue and yellow with a see of sunflowers under a blue sky. Initially I used the idea for the background of my art journal, thinking I can journal in the sky area.  Once I was finished I thought it would also make for a pretty card, so I did that as well.

Masking is a simple technique. You can use a post it note or masking paper.  Stamp the image on the post-it note 'mask' several times and cut them out.

Place them over the stamped image that you don't want to cover.

Move the masks around as you need.

I hope you will give masking a try.

Below are some other examples of masking.

Here are some how to videos on the cards I've made.
