Painting with Soft Pastels

Hi everyone!  As you can see I am still using my Soft Pastels.  I am trying out different techniques to see what works.  Today I used my Water Painters to paint with the pastels.  This worked really well and makes the colors very vibrant when used on Basic Black Cardstock.

I made a little swatch card to see what each of the colors would look like on the black background.

At the top of the card I swatched the pastels directly on the cardstock. Underneath I painted the color on with water.  Finally, the last row show the pastels when applied with a q-tip. As you can see, the Purple shows up the least.

I used the technique with the Color and Contour stamp set. For this first card I used the Daffodil Delight and Granny Apple Green pastels.  I first stamped with Versamark on Black Cardstock, then used White Embossing powder.  The card base is Bumblebee.  I added some Designer Series Paper from the Pansy petals Designer Series Paper.  I LOVE the Bumblebee Gingham Ribbon, so I had to use that!

The Color and Contour Dies are Amazing and I think I am going to be using these A LOT! Here they frame the main image and are used for the sentiment.

The second card uses the Color and Contour bundle as well.  This time I used Coastal Cabana and Misty Moonlight cardstock.

I painted the embossed flower images with the Coastal Cabana, Daffodil Delight and Navy Soft Pastels.

I needed some birthday cards so I went outside of the set for the sentiments.  These sentiments are from the In Bloom stamp set.  They are embossed in Black.

I hope you'll give this technique a try.  And be sure to check out the Color and Contour bundle!
