What a Mess!

Did you ever have such a mess in your craft area that you just couldn't get anything done?  Well, that's where I am at right now.  So, Its cleaning day for my craft space!  I wanted to make a rosette wreath and some of the ornaments from the Holiday Mini catalog, but my room is making me nuts.  I hope to post pictures of those projects next week.  Check back, I'll show you my nice organized room!

Whooooo ...Doesn't love an owl Christmas card?

I love the stamp set Owl Occasions from the Holiday Mini  catalog.  This time I used it for a Christmas card.  The base is Cherry Cobbler, the frame is Gumball Green and the strip of Designer Series paper is from the Be of Good Cheer paper pack.  I added a layer of Embossed Cherry Cobbler for some texture.  I used the modern label punch to punch out the Merry Christmas stamp.  I wanted a bit of a frame around the modern label punch, so I punched an additional piece from some Cherry Cobbler, cut it in half, and attached it to the sides of the Very Vanilla piece.

Box it up!

I needed a box to fit a specific project.  Not too big, not too small, not too costly, or to fussy ( I need to make a bunch).    I stared at the items going into the box for a long time.  They were too big for the size of cello bags I had, so that wouldn't work.  My only solution was to just make a box from scratch.  I started by measuring the items going into the box.  A book, some pamphlets, and a pen.  These are for the welcoming committee to use as welcome gifts for visitors at church.  I was asked to make something to hold them all together.   This is what I came up with.   I have to make quite a bunch of them, so I couldn't make anything with too many steps or supplies.  I think they turned out pretty nice.  These look very fall like, so I'll make some others more neutral to get started for now.    I measured the items for how wide they are, and how thick.  Then I measured out the paper by adding an inch to each side of the width, added an inch for the thickness of the bottom. and scored.  I used my simply scored tool to score all my fold lines.  Then, sniped the tabs, and glued my box together. 

Next I decorated the box with a strip of co-ordintating designer series paper.  I added a bow and a button, and a tag reading "Welcome"

You can see that the ideas are endless for decorating.  You could add flowers or butterflies and make your box in any color and size. 

So, one down, twenty nine more to go! :)

I am glad that the school and the cub scouts are teaching the kids about honoring the memory of
September 11th.  My children were not yet born, David was 3 months away, but America was forever changed and I'm glad that the day is treated as special.

Comfort Cafe Hybrid cards

What is a Hybrid card?  A Hybrid card is one that uses both real and digital element's in the same project.  In this case I made the background paper in My Digital Studio, the digital program from Stampin' Up!  The stitching and Comfort Cafe patterned paper are both digital images.  I made four digital card fronts on an 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of whisper white paper.  Then I added some real stamped images and a real button on top.  The Stamp set is called Friendship Preserves.  I cut out the stamped image with the Window frames dies.   The Window Frames Dies also have a matching paper piercing template.  I love products that co-ordinate with each other. 

This next card used another of my digi backgrounds, as well as the Friendship Preserves stamp set.  This time I set the stamped image on a paper rosette.  There are several ways to make a paper rosette.  This way is one of the fastest and I think the easiest.  You need a scallop circle punch, whatever size you like.  Punch out two scallop circles and then make a score line across the circle between all the valleys between the scallop.  The score lines should go straight across the middle. 

Here are my scored circles.  You can use something like this score board, or you can just fold the circles in half.

Next you make a cut in the scallop circle from between one of the scallops to the center.  Do this on both circles.  Then, you fan fold the circle on your score lines.  When fan folding, first do one where the ends go down, and then on your second one make the ends start up.  Then nest the two circles together with a bit of glue.  Your done!

These rosettes are great on scrapbook pages and treat holders, cards and more.  And, they are fun!

Cute Christmas Cardinal

I recently purchase the stamp set "For the Birds" and I really like it.  I used it just the other day for a bright and cheery summer thank you, and today I am using it for a wintery card.  I think the birds are just so cute.  This little guy just had to be colored red.  I used Cherry Cobbler and Gumball Green, which are the colors in the Designer Series Paper I used, Be of Good Cheer.

I started with a Cherry Cobbler card base, and added strips of 1 by 2 inch paper from the Be of Good Cheer pack.  My main image is stamped on Very Vanilla paper, and cut out with the Apothecary Accent Framelit Dies.  I added some Gumball Green ribbon at the ends.     

I also added some snowy looking Dazzling Diamonds Glitter for more bling.
