Holiday Tags

Saturday I had my Collage Class and we made a really cute Framed Christmas collage.  I showed this project a while back in this post.  I had my sample up on display, but I also had some other square options people could choose.  After the frames were finished I told attendees that they could make up a few Holiday tags using the other optional squares they didn't use on their frame projects.   Here are some examples of the tags we made.

My favorites were the Snowman, I think he is just so sweet, and the Santa suit, because it is just so simple.

 

 

Look how messy our table got! WOW.  The other one was worse :)  This project had lots of little pieces but worth it in the end!

It's a bit early, but I was challenged to make a glittery card for the Creative Crew challenges at Splitcoast Stampers and I thought of New Years and the sparkly mirror ball.  Here is what I came up with.
The striped paper looked a bit formal, like a fancy New Years Eve party.  The scallop Glimmer paper highlights the stamp that reads "Imagine the Possibilities".  And 2013 stands out and sparkles.  The Imagine the Possibilities stamp is from the Word Play set, and that set has many great sayings, but maybe only a few appeal to you and you don't want to pay for all of them when you only like a few.  Well, that is not a problem! From now until Jan 5th, Stampin' Up is offering Single Stamps!  They have broken down some of the large popular sets so that you can get exactly what you want.  The Large tree from Christmas Lodge, the peacock from World Treasures.  I've attached the LINK to all the single stamps here.

I added little ribbon bits in satin and taffeta to keep with the formal look of the card.

Grinchy Gift Card Holder

Those of  you who read my blog will recognize this little Grinch.   He used to be on a Candy bar, but now he is a Gift Card Holder!  Perfect for this time of year, and I think the Grinch will be cute for my teen-age  nephews and nieces.
I used a template that I have used many times before for cocoa packs and candy bars.  It is the Pull-up  Treats template from splitcoast stampers.











 I changed the dimensions to fit my gift card.  The size I used is 4 1/4 by 5 1/4.  I scored along the 5 1/4 side at 1 1/2 and 3 3/4.   I used a piece of sticky strip along the bottom to pinch it closed.  Flip one side closed.








Then add more sticky strip along the inside of the still opened side and then flip that flap closed.




Add a hole to the opened end.

You  need the hole to go all the way through.  If your punch can't go though all the layers, as mine can't, here is what I do.  Punch through one side, then move the punch to the other side and look through the first hole you  made.  When you see the hole maker thingy through the punched hole, you know you are lined up, so go ahead and make your hole on the other side.  Hope that makes sense, it does in my head but that doesn't mean it does to anyone else :)

 

I then decorated the holder with the Grinch as I made him last year.  Here are the parts.

You can barely see the little nose made from the owl Punch's feet.

Here is how I made the trim on the hat.  Punch a small strip of white from the scallop square punch.  Then, slide the punched part back in and line up the scallops and punch again. tricky, but once  you get the hang of it, not too bad.

 

I also added a band of designer paper around the gift card holder, to sort of anchor the Grinch.   My favorite stamp to use with the Grinch has to be "Even the Naughty Deserve Something Nice!"  This stamp is from the "Tag's till Christmas" set, which is such a great set for any mood of Christmas tag, fancy, pretty, traditional and silly. 

Now, to make the pull treat work, you need to wrap ribbon around your gift card, and push it into the holder.

Bring the ribbon ends through the holes from the inside to the outside.  Then make a tie or knot.  Add your tag.  All done!

Pull the ribbon to make sure you have no snags and give to your lucky receiver.

Photo Cube

One of the Creative Crew Challenges this month is to make a Photo Cube! I had never made one before so I was happy to give it a try.  The directions can be found here.  The cube went together fairly quickly, and so did the decoration because I used slightly large pictures and did not leave myself a lot of room for embellishments. 

You need a 12 x 12 piece of paper for this project.  Score one side at ½", 3 ¼", 6", 8 3/4", and 11 ½".   Score the other side at 2 ¾", 5 ½", 8 ¼", and 11". 

You end up cutting away a lot of the paper, but no worries, I used the cut away piece on some cards, score lines and all.  The score lines added some texture and looked good with my geometric patterned paper. 

I attached my photos before folding up the box, it made it easier. I used sticky strip to adhere the flaps.

I decorated the top with a paper bow, but you could add another photo or embellishment. I bought a paper bow template the other day, and I wanted to try it out.  I think the paper bows look really nice with double sided paper.

No Peeking Stamp set

 The No Peeking stamp set is just so cute.  I love the little penguin with his scarf and hat.  Every one of the stamps in the set is cute and I'm sure to use them all.  I think I will use this set for Christmas tags on packages for the younger ones on my Christmas list.  I decided to make the cards fairly simple so I stuck with basic shapes and let the patterned paper do most of the work.  The paper I am using for both cards is the "Festival of Prints" paper stack.  I have to admit I was unsure of this new product when I saw it in the Holiday mini catalog, but I bought it anyway out of curiosity.  The pack is only 4 1/2 by 6 1/2 so I thought that might be odd, but then realized i rarely use my 12 x 12 in full size anyway, and in this smaller size you get 48 sheets!!!!  for only $6.95 and they are still double sided.  And, while flipping through the papers I really like them.  So  many of them would be great for both Christmas projects AND all year.  The patterns are not snow or trees, not all red and green.  They show the red and green sides I think since it the Holiday season, but there are some great blues and browns too.  floral prints and bold geometric prints too!

This first card uses the 1 3/4 circle punch.  I used markers to ink up the penguin and Jolly Christmas.  The Jolly Christmas was punched out with the large Oval punch and is popped up with dimensionals.  Little tags of ribbon behind the sentiment give the card a whimsical feel.  The background was embossed with the chevron embossing folder.  Quick and simple and fun!

This card uses the reindeer stamp, and I've made it Rudolph by giving him a sparkly nose.  It's hard to see the sparkle in the picture, but in real life it stands out and shines.  I used Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details for the nose.  This paper is also from the Festival of Prints pack and its one of my favorites.  The Cherry Cobbler ribbon is ruffled by fraying the end of the ribbon, and pulling on one of the center strands of ribbon.

The Happy Christmas stamp is from the More Merry Messages stamp set.
